The Fetish Art of Franz Von Bayros 1866-1924
An Austrian erotic artist from the late 19th/early 20th century. Although, he was often expelled from multiple European cities due to the sexual content of his work, he managed to produce over 2,000 erotic works in his lifetime. His most famous collection was a series of erotic images called Erzahlungen vom Toilettentisch or Tales from the Dressing Table.
These illustrations were a part of the Decadence movement, a movement embodying fragile erotic pieces and romantic themes. He was one of the first artists introducing fetishes in art, thus creating “fetish art.” After finishing his famous portfolio, Tales from the Dressing Table, his images caused such controversy that he was arrested and exiled from Germany, later residing in Vienna.

This astonishing sculpture forms part of Barcelona’s Poblenou Cemetery. The Kiss of Death (El Petó de la Mort in Catalan and El beso de la muerte in Spanish) dates back to 1930. A winged skeleton bestows a kiss on the lips of a handsome young man: is it ecstasy on his face or resignation? Little wonder the sculpture elicits strong and varying responses from whoever gazes upon it.
